The
Presidents Podium- Meeting
information All of the Directors were at the March meeting,
additionally Barton Barrow, Rose Taylor, Holly Dean, Ray Gerdes and Brian
Guerrero were there. Most of the meeting was taken up with Bonanza
planning. There will be a work
party on Saturday and/or Sunday April 19&20, so expect to get a call to help
with this. We need to get the range
all ready on that weekend as we are starting the shoot on Saturday… Donations from buckle donors have started to
come in, the first one was from Sierra Nevada Construction, who sent us in a
check for $100, thank you Very Much! We also
discussed creating a poster for SAB that just has our emblem and on it and some
general information about the club and a map to the range, that we can post at
different locations such as Cabella’s, Sportsman’s etc…
We discussed the grant we
have been working on from the Nevada Department of Wildlife.
It was submitted in February and we had not heard anything about it for a
while. I contacted them and they requested a more detailed estimate on the costs
and any restrictions there might be by the Washoe County Parks.
I contacted Washoe County Parks and got that information, then submitted
a detailed estimate with current costs ( it came to about $4800 dollars).
John McKay with NDOW said that it looked O.K. and it was going forward.
He called back today and said the contract people advised him that the grant
needed to be agency to agency, so they are revising it to better reflect that,
then it will be ready to submit to WCP for signature… Hope
to see you at the next meeting, Monday April 14th, at 6:30 pm, 5270 Neil Room

1st week in December (tentative at this time) Tip
of the month The
law- This came up in a class-Washoe
County has changed it’s discharge of firearms law- moving from the state law
of no discharge of firearm within 500 feet of an occupied building, to no
discharge of a firearm within 5,000 feet ( that’s right, almost a mile) of an
occupied building or an improved road! It makes a shorter distance for shotguns,
being 1,000 feet. I have not been able to find a specific mention of archery,
but as some of you know, at one time the D/A interpreted it to include archery.
If anyone has further information on this please let me know, so I can
keep everyone informed! KD P.S. An interesting note, this law
would put their own shooting facility in violation, as it is easily with in a
mile of both occupied dwellings (houses) and the Pyramid Highway… Please
let me know about your hunts, good
stories are what I am looking for, whether you took an animal or not. I will put
them in the story of the month section…KD Silver

To talk to a real person and get answers The Flag An
unknown person put up a nice American flag on our flag pole about a month and a
half ago. We were unable to
determine who it was, but whoever you are, thank you, it looks great!
Since that time, Paul has received 3 complaints about the flag, that the
flag is flying during hours of darkness and it is not supposed to fly at night
without a light on it. They all suggested that it needed to be taken down each
at night. Neither Paul or the club
has the resources to put it up and down every day. With the complaints, Paul
decided to just take it down.. …KD
